EMC Entertainment - It's roping time in the Smiths Falls area with tickets for the region's first competitive rodeo on sale now.

Those waiting to chance the line-ups at the gate June 23-24 will be looking at a $25 ticket fee. Tickets are available in advance at Eco Tours on Chambers Street in Smiths Falls and online at www.uppercanadarodeofoundation.com. The event takes place in Lombardy.

Kevin Pennock, organizer of the Upper Canada Rodeo is delighted with the positive, local response he has received from the Smiths Falls area since announcing he would be bringing a rodeo to the area late last year.

"I've exceeded more right now than I expected," Pennock admitted. "The people of Smiths Falls and Lombardy are the ones that helped me get there."

This summer's rodeo promises to be a great weekend of family fun with a professional rodeo competition and on stage entertainment taking place throughout the two-day period.

Sharing the stage that weekend will be country music artist, Sarah McClurg (June 23 from 1-5 p.m.) in the Beer Gardens. Later that night the area's own Ambush will be on the main stage from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. rocking the house to a healthy mix of country and rock. Other acts include The Gallagher Family's Cowboy Church (10 a.m. June 24) and The Nelson Colt Band at noon June 24.

The little cowpokes in your posse will enjoy the beanie toss and dress up photo opportunity. Proceeds from these activities will be going to the Lanark County Interval House.

This line-up of entertainment has attracted attention internationally.

"I'm getting hits all over the world," Pennock added. "You're just going to have to be there to see it."

To accommodate the tourists to town, Pennock is working with the Town of Smiths Falls to open up a portion of Lower Reach Park for RV and camper set up. Plans are in the works to have a shuttle bus between the park and the event site in Lombardy to make the evening completely hassle free for visitors.

As the time nears for the first roundup organizers are setting their sights on corraling a dedicated group of volunteers for the weekend. Anyone interested in volunteering their time is asked to provide their name and contact information via email to Pennock at kevin@uppercanadarodeofoundation.com.
