Many helped make hockey night special

Dear Editor:

On April 1, Smiths Falls hosted the Swedish 'AA' Minor Bantam hockey team from Skargarden and the Rideau St. Lawrence Kings for an exciting game of international hockey.

This special game and evening was based on a local theme with local father and son: referees, Barry and Devon DeGray, players and coaching staff - Bert Stranberg (general manager), Ed Reeves (assistant coach).

Taking part in the opening ceremonial dropping of the puck were: Const. Dave Murphy of the Smiths Falls Police Service, David Blair of the OPP, Pascal Meunier of the Smiths Falls Fire Department, and Karson McCartney of the Smiths Falls Jr. A Bears.

Flag bearers were Dawson DeGray and Taylor Cassell of Smiths Falls Minor Hockey. The Canadian national anthem was beautifully sung by Cassie Hull. Television and play-by-play coverage were done by Wayne Adams and Rick Green. Music by Kurt.

We also wish to thank the Rec. Department and rink staff for their help and support.

The evening's great success was also due to the town, merchants and generous contributions of food, drinks, money, flags and pins.

Our deepest thanks and appreciation to the following local supporters: Blair and Son, Garden Market, Canadian Tire, Subway, Food Basics, SFMHA, MP Scott Reid, Tim Hortons, Giant Tiger, Gideons, Crime Stoppers, Hugh Colton (Town & Country Chrysler) and Jeff Snow (Lake 88.1).
