Bears take huge step to clinching playoff spot
Posted Feb 27, 2011 By EMC NewsInspired by the appearance of a minor hockey coaching legend on their bench and bolstered by some stellar play by their number one line, the Smiths Falls Jr. Bears took a huge step to securing a playoff berth at home Friday night.
With Louie Hart being honoured for his 60 years of coaching, Mike McNamee connected on his 40th goal of the year and added a pair of assists in leading his club to a 5-2 victory over the visiting Kemptville 73's. McNamee has also reached the 80-point plateau for the first time in his Jr. A career. The loss officially eliminated the 73's from playoff contention.
Bears, now 26-28-3-3 are now three points ahead of Ottawa Jr. Senators for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Central Canada Tier 1 Jr. A Hockey League. The Sens lost a 4-3 heartbreaker to the Brockville Braves Friday night.
Smiths Falls can secure that berth with a win at home next Friday against the Hawkesbury Hawks.
