Bears pound Raiders in Nepean

The Bears made their first regulation win of the Central Hockey League season a memorable one, hammering the Nepean Raiders 8-2 Wednesday night.
After overtime and shootout victories earlier this month, the Bears left nothing to chance this night at the Nepean Sportsplex, scoring three in the first period and four more in the second.
Newcomer Matt Robertson led Smiths Falls on offence with a hat trick and one assist. He was one of seven Bears to record multi-point games. Ryan Van Stralen, named the game's first star, had a goal and two helpers while Jordon Bobrow, Mike McNamee, Cody Fraser and Ryan Bedard each scored once and added one assist. Defenceman Warren Steele had a two-assist night.
The Bears outshot the Raiders 34-32 on the night. Starting goalie Matt Jenkins was stellar, making 30 saves in recording his third victory of the year. Raiders netminder Michel Kowalew took the loss, allowing six goals off 32 shots in his 44:30 of work. Daniel Altshuller also saw action this night.
The Bears penalty killers were in top form this night, keeping the Raiders from scoring despite having seven power plays. The Bears didn't connect on their single chance with the man advantage.
The Bears return to action this Friday when the suddenly resurgent Kanata Stallions pay a visit to the Youth Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
