Accomplished performer to take Station Theatre stage
Posted Feb 3, 2011 By Stacey RoyEMC Entertainment - The Smiths Falls Station Theatre is proud to welcome the talents of Michael Burgess Feb. 19.
The Canadian tenor singer made his name as Jean Valjean in the hit national production of Les Miserables, and has since gone on to success in a variety of musical mediums such as television, film, recording and performance. Later this month, Burgess will bring these talents to Smiths Falls fans during a 7:30 p.m. show at the Station Theatre.
"I think it's great," remarked Jamie Schoular, theatre president.
Tickets are $40 plus tax and can be purchased by calling Karen Hallinan at 613-283-0676.
Bringing Burgess' celebrated tenor voice to Smiths Falls can't be done alone. The theatre has been working with promoter Rick Wharton on this effort.
"He's had a fairly extensive career in entertainment," Schoular said.
Wharton has worked behind the scenes at the Juno Awards and is currently based out of Pembroke. Having this level of professional assistance is very much appreciated by the theatre board, which is volunteer run.
According to Schoular, the theatre continues to work on how it will operate as a functioning enterprise.
"There's lots of things that we're learning as we go," Schoular said.
FREDDY DIXON SHOW
The theatre's focusing on offering entertainment at various price points so that the entire community can enjoy this new facility. An effort to reflect the region the theatre sits in is also being made.
"We have to make sure that it's open and accessible to local talent," Schoular said.
This Saturday, Freddy Dixon will be performing at the Station Theatre at 8 p.m.
