Open Stage kicks off Sunday

Posted May 31, 2012 By Stacey Roy

EMC Entertainment - This Sunday evening the sound check will be completed and the welcome mat rolled out for local musicians and music lovers to experience the exhilaration of being on stage when the 16th annual Open Stage begins.

This year's opening night takes place in Lower Reach Park from 5 to 8 p.m. to coincide with Open Doors Smiths Falls. That night, organizers are hosting a fundraising barbecue at the park with all proceeds going to cover the costs of advertising.

"I like to encourage people for the rest of the time to bring their family and have a picnic," said Bev Hitchins, Open Stage founder.

This year's edition should be a great one with the new splash pad and washroom facilities now open. Plans were to host Open Stage under the Rotary shelter, which is now attached to the Kinsmen Pavilion. Everyone is urged to bring a lawn chair, appropriate outdoor clothing and come listen to some great local talent. Open Stage is every Sunday until the second weekend in September.
