Weight loss challenge benefits food bank and participants
Posted Jan 26, 2012 By Marla ShookEMC News - Close to 280 pounds was lost during last year's Biggest Winner Weight Loss Challenge at Vickie's Specialty Shop.
Two participants have kept at it and one is approaching the 50 pounds lost mark, while the other has lost well over that amount.
Vickie Dickson, owner of the store, lost 31 pounds. She has kept it off through exercise and eating properly.
"A lot of people have been asking me for it," she said of Vickie's Biggest Winner Weight Loss Challenge, so after last year's first ever event she is holding a second annual challenge in 2012. Folks came from as far as Perth and Carleton Place to take part in 2011.
Those looking to sign up should head into the shop to fill out a registration by Feb. 1. Weekly weigh ins commence on that date. Participants choose the day, time and weight loss plan they wish.
For each weigh in there will be a $2 fee and one item of food for the food bank.
Weigh ins continue until Aug. 1. The participant with the highest percentage of weight lost by Aug. 1, will receive a $100 card to Vickie's and one of Vickie's makeover packages.
On Dec. 1, all participants who have kept their weight off can purchase any one item in the store at half price.
Participants will also receive a 10 per cent discount on clothing purchases as their size changes as well as a 15 per cent discount on all jewelry, scarves and bags. However this discount is only valid as long as the participant is continuing to lose weight and undertake their weekly weigh ins.
The 2011 event saw 35 sign up originally, but as time went on some lost their commitment to the program.
