Man arrested several days after shoplifting

EMC News - On Jan. 21, 2012, a 46-year old Kemptville man was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000 and two counts of Breach Probation.

It is alleged that on Jan. 15, 2012 around 1:20 p.m. the accused attended a store on Beckwith St North. The accused allegedly removed wrapping off several bottles of perfume before concealing them and leaving the store un-noticed at that time.

On Jan. 17, 2012 staff discovered the theft of perfume valued at $896. Police were contacted and began an investigation. The accused was identified and subsequently arrested.

The accused was held for bail. The allegations have not been proven in court.

MAN AND WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER ALTERCATION WITH POLICE

On Jan. 18, 2012, a 52-year old Smiths Falls man was arrested and charged with Assault, Utter threats to cause Bodily Harm, Assault Police, Resisting Arrest and Weapons dangerous. A 40-year old Smiths Falls woman was arrested and charged with Assault Police and Obstruct Police.

It is alleged that on Jan. 18, 2012 police attended a residence on Phillip Street to investigate a domestic disturbance. Upon police arrival the accused male reportedly became belligerent and threatening. When police attempted to arrest the accused male, he allegedly struck one officer on the side of her head and ripped her radio off. When officers took the accused male to the ground to affect an arrest, he continued to resist by attempting to punch officers and grab at them.

While attempting to restrain the accused male, the accused female reportedly began swinging her fists at one of the officers. The accused female allegedly struck the officer several times in the chest forcing him to disengage from arresting the accused male to take control of her. The accused female was arrested after she ignored several commands to stop interfering and tried to push past the officer.

Once handcuffed the accused male continued assaulting police by attempting to kick them. During the arrest the accused male had attempted to reach into his pocket and while searching him, police located a pocketknife. After further investigation, police learned the accused male had also assaulted a third party by swinging his fists at him, prior to police arrival.

The accused male was held for bail. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear. The allegations have not been proven in court.

ASSAULT

On Jan. 17, 2012, a 24 year old Smiths Falls man was arrested and charged with Assault Cause Bodily Harm.

It is alleged that on Jan. 17, 2011 the accused and the 26 year old female victim were arguing in a residence on Brockville Street in Smiths Falls. The argument escalated and the accused head butted the victim causing a laceration on the bridge of her nose. As a result of the assault, the victim suffered a broken nose and three stitches.

The accused was held for bail. The allegations have not been proven in court.
