EMC Events - Refresh your makeup and have a photo taken for your sweetheart during Pretty in Pink, a fundraiser for breast cancer research at the County Fair Mall.

Friday, Feb. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the mall, men and women are welcome to attend and, for $5, have their makeup touched up by Avon Canada. They can also have their photograph taken, as a Valentine's Day gift for their loved one, and enter a draw for a gift basket full of goodies supplied by Avon.

All funds raised that evening will go to the Canadian Cancer Society for breast cancer research. Folks are encouraged to come on out in pink for the occasion, mall manager Marsha Jackson-Legault explains.

No need to register ahead of time, it will be first come, first served. Photographs from the occasion can either be of individuals or groups and 4x6 prints will be available for pickup that evening.

Jackson-Legault notes the mall has taken part in the town's Winter Carnival (this year's Smiths Falls Winter Carnival takes place Feb. 12 to 14, with a variety of activities) in the past, with undertakings such as fundraising silent auctions, the Little Miss Winter Carnival and other events.

"We are a community mall," she commented.

Those wishing more information about the event or who would like to get involved are asked to call Jackson-Legault at 613-283-2418.

The Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society will also feature an information table during the event, for those who might have questions about the society or breast cancer.

According to the Canadian Cancer Society website, risk factors for breast cancer include, among others, a family history of the disease, ovarian cancer, an above average exposure to the hormone estrogen.
